Medicare Options
Medicare is a health insurance program for those 65 or older, or younger with certain disabilities. It is a federal program similar to Social Security. This program pays part of the expenses associated with doctor’s bills, hospitalization, skilled nursing care, surgery, and home health care. We provide a full range of Medicare insurance including Supplements, Medicare Advantage Plans, and Medicare Prescription Drug Plans. We will work with you to determine which Medicare plan best fits your needs and will guide you through the available options listed below.
Part A
This component of Medicare covers most medically necessary hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice care, and some health care costs. If you have worked for at least 10 years and paid Social Security taxes, this program has no premium. For those who have not been employed for the minimum time, there is a monthly premium.
Part B
This part of Medicare is medical insurance and covered non-hospital expenses like routine visits to the doctor, blood tests, X-rays, outpatient care, and diabetic screenings and supplies. Members of this part of Medicare (Part A and B) pay a monthly premium. For people with higher incomes, the monthly cost may be higher. Another government program, Medicaid, can help cover Medicare Part B premiums for individuals with lower incomes.
Part C
This part is often called Medicare Advantage. This component includes every type of Medicare coverage in one health plan. For this option, private insurance companies are contracted through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This part is meant to provide individuals with an alternative benefits package to original Medicare plans. Part C is optional, but in order to receive it, you must already have Parts A and B. The premium beneficiaries of Part B pay is still required for a Medicare Advantage plan.
Part D
Part D Medicare coverage is also optional. It covers prescription drug coverage. Unlike Part C, this component is available as a stand-alone service through many private insurance companies. The cost-share of prescriptions depends on the specific plan you’re enrolled in, and the monthly fees vary among users. These costs may be a flat copayment amount, a deductible, or a percentage of the full drug cost (or co-insurance).
